Twinning excellence on organic soil amendments effect on nutrient and contaminant dynamics in the subsurface
The TwinSubDyn project aims to establish a knowledge hub in University of Novi Sad, Faculty of Sciences to address the impact of organic soil amendments on contaminants, nutrient dynamics, and groundwater quality in the soil subsurface. The Western Balkan is a priority for the EU, and sustainable food production is a major focus of research and innovation due to environmental issues caused by global farming practices. In northern Serbia, agriculture uses 82% of the land, emphasizing the need for environmentally friendly production methods. Organic soil amendments like digestate, manure, compost, sewage sludge, and biochar are becoming more popular in the Western Balkan, impacting soil structure and nutrient composition, and influencing groundwater quality. The overarching goal of the project to step up and stimulate the scientific excellence and innovation capacity and institutional research support and administration.
